Add your voice. Get paid for it.
Be part of the change. AI is learning to listen, and right now it doesn't hear us. Every session you record in Nigerian English, Pidgin, Yorùbá, Igbo or Hausa teaches it our languages and our accents, so the future of technology includes all of us. Record short sessions on your phone and get paid for every one we approve.
Make AI hear us. An AI future that hears every African, in their own voice, built with yours.
- Be heard
Your language and your accent, not a borrowed one.

Nigerian languages deserve voice AI.
Today's voice assistants were trained on British and American speech. They mishear Pidgin, flatten Yorùbá tones and stumble when we mix languages mid-sentence. The fix is data: thousands of real Nigerians, speaking the way they actually speak, recorded with their consent and paid fairly.
Models learn from what they hear. More Nigerian voices means technology that understands Lagos, Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt equally well.
"Abeg, send me the file before 5pm." Real speech mixes languages, so some prompts ask you to mix them too.
No recordings taken from the internet without asking. Every voice in the program chose to be there.
Four steps, on your phone.
Everything happens in your browser. No app to install. A session takes about 30 minutes, and you can stop and pick up where you left off.
Use your Google account, confirm you're 18 or older, and read the terms.
- Choose your consents
Testing and training are required. Commercial use and voice cloning are up to you, and both start off.
- Record a session
One prompt at a time: read a sentence, or answer an everyday question in your own words. Each take is checked straight away, so you know if it needs another go.
- Get paid
Submit when every prompt has a good take. We review it, and once it's approved you're paid by bank transfer.
Paid per approved session.
The amount is fixed and shown in the app before you start. It's the same whatever consent choices you make.
About 30 minutes of recording, in one language.
- When
- After we've reviewed and approved the session. Payments go out in batches, so they can take a little while.
- How
- Bank transfer to a Nigerian account in your own name. No shared or third-party accounts.
- How many
- Up to 3 approved sessions per language, so no single voice takes over. Speak three languages and you can do nine.
- One at a time
- Finish or submit your open session before starting another.
- Redo or reject
- If a take is unclear we'll ask you to redo it, with a note. Sessions that aren't genuine aren't paid.
What we ask, and what we never ask.
Your recordings carry a speaker code, not your name. Your name and bank details are kept apart, used only to pay you.
We ask for
- Your date of birth, to confirm you're 18 or older.
- The languages you speak, your state and gender if you'd like to say, so Oya works for everyone.
- The phone you'll record on, because microphones differ.
- Bank details, to pay you. The account number is stored encrypted.
We never ask for
- Your BVN, NIN or card details. Nobody from Oya will ever ask for them.
- A PIN, password or OTP. You sign in with Google; we never see your password.
- Money. Joining is free. If anyone asks for a fee, it isn't us.
- Personal details in recordings. Don't say names, addresses or numbers while recording.
Before you join.

Who can join?
Anyone 18 or older living in Nigeria who speaks at least one of the five languages well. Other countries are coming soon. One account per person, recording only your own voice. You need a phone or computer with a microphone and a quiet room.
Which languages?
Nigerian English, Pidgin, Yorùbá, Igbo and Hausa. You can record in each language you speak, up to three approved sessions per language.
How and when am I paid?
By bank transfer to the account you add, after your session is reviewed and approved. The app shows what you're owed and what's been paid, with the transfer reference. Payments are made in batches, so allow some time after approval.
What happens to my recordings?
They're stored on Google Cloud in London and used to test and train Oya's speech models. We never sell them. Commercial use of trained models and voice cloning happen only if you choose them. The full terms explain everything, including which services process your audio.
Can I change my mind?
Yes. Withdraw your consent any time from Settings in the app. We stop using your recordings for anything new and remove them from future training sets. Models already trained can't unlearn them, but we won't use the recordings again, and we'll delete them if you ask. Any payment we haven't sent yet is cancelled; payments already sent are yours to keep.
Why was my session sent back?
Usually because a take was too quiet, too noisy or cut off. You'll see a note on the session saying what to fix; re-record those prompts and submit again.
Oya.
