What Oya keeps, and why.
Oya is a voice service, so the most personal thing you give it is how you speak. This page says plainly what we keep when you use the Oya app, what we never keep without asking, and how to have it all deleted. Oya is run by Andelle Limited, a company registered in England and Wales.
Who you are, and your place on the list.
When you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your name and email address (or Apple's private relay address, if you chose to hide yours). If you join the early-access list we keep your answers: the languages you speak, how you'd use Oya and what for. We use these only to manage your access and to decide who to let in next.
Transcripts, so we can run and improve Oya.
For every conversation we keep a text transcript of what Oya heard and what it said, with timings such as how long each reply took, whether you interrupted, and any errors. We use them to fix problems, to measure how well Oya understands each language, and to make replies better.
Only a small number of people at Oya can read transcripts, through an access-controlled admin tool. We never sell them and never use them for advertising.
Audio only if you say yes.
By default we do not keep recordings of your voice. Audio passes through our speech services to be understood and is then discarded.
If you turn on Help Oya learn your language in Settings, we keep the audio of what you say from then on, with its transcript, to train and test Oya's speech models. You can turn it off at any time; we stop keeping new audio straight away, and we'll delete what we kept if you ask.
The services that make Oya work.
To hear you and to reply, Oya sends your speech and text to the services it is built on: Spitch (speech recognition and voices) and Anthropic (writing replies). Your data is stored on Google Cloud and Firebase in London. Cloudflare carries traffic to the app at app.heyoya.io, encrypted, without storing it. These providers process it on our behalf and under their own security commitments.
See it, correct it, or delete it.
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, your waitlist answers, your conversation transcripts and any audio you chose to share. Write to hello@heyoya.io from the email you sign in with and we'll act on it promptly.
We keep your data while your account is open. If you live in Nigeria or the UK, you also have the rights given by the Nigeria Data Protection Act and UK data protection law, including the right to complain to the regulator.
